A leading Electronic Design & Manufacturing Services company, operating in India and Germany, encountered a critical data loss issue involving approximately 3 TB of crucial barcode-related data. The data, stored on a Seagate ST4000VX016 HDD, became inaccessible after an unknown command was executed. Despite initial scans with proprietary Stellar Recovery software showing only a few MB of data, a detailed sector-level inspection revealed that the data was in an encrypted state. This led to the discovery of auto-enabled BitLocker encryption on the drive.
To resolve the issue, we created a 4 TB clone of the drive for further examination. By identifying and focusing on the BitLocker encryption, we successfully mounted the drive and re-scanned it with our recovery tool. This meticulous approach allowed us to recover 2.90 TB of the lost data, demonstrating our expertise in handling complex data recovery scenarios involving encrypted drives.
